Leign of years that saw the first-ever Viagra-like drug to hit the market, was it was time to take the next step.
In a moment when millions of men worldwide are turning to this little blue pill to treat their erectile dysfunction, a new study suggests that it might be possible to make a much larger number of men averse to it.
Researchers from the European University in Brussels conducted a study that showed that the drug works by increasing blood flow to the genitals. It is also similar to the way that the drug improves the symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
“What is exciting about this is that this shows that a large number of men are able to take this,” said Dr. Michael D. Hoffman, a urologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore who is the co-author of the study. “The study shows that this drug can make men less hesitant about discussing their sexual problems with their doctor, and that in turn, they may be more willing to seek treatment if they feel they are better equipped to discuss their sexual health concerns with their doctor.”
The findings are the first published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine and Research in September 2022.
“We are delighted to see this important advance in the treatment of erectile dysfunction,” said Hoffman, director of the Sexual Medicine Center of the U. S. Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. “We hope that this study will encourage more men to seek help for erectile dysfunction and that this drug could lead to improved sexual relationships and quality of life.”
Dr. Hoffman said that it is possible for a drug like Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the genitals and improving the symptoms of the disorder. However, the study was designed as a pilot, and participants in the study were randomly assigned to take the drug for a 3-month period before they were told to go through a series of tests to see if it worked for them.
Researchers conducted the pilot in a separate, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of 1,000 men. They then followed those men for at least 4 weeks.
Researchers showed that those taking the drug had an increased frequency of intercourse more than those who didn’t. This increased frequency of intercourse was not associated with decreased sexual desire or increased risk of premature ejaculation. The medication also increased the frequency of masturbation and other sexual behaviors, which are associated with increased sexual satisfaction.
“We are pleased to see this drug shows that it can make men less hesitant to discuss their sexual problems with their doctor,” Hoffman said. “It is important to emphasize that these findings are preliminary and there are no long-term studies that we know of showing the benefits of the drug on sexual health.”
The study was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine and Research.
The drug has also been linked to a link to an increase in the risk of certain types of cancers, including prostate cancer, which can be serious.

The United States, the biggest pharmaceutical company, said that its patent for Levitra expired on June 21 in the United States, but that the US Food and Drug Administration has not approved it for use in Europe.
Bayer said it has received reports of some men experiencing erectile dysfunction and "unexplained" sexual symptoms. It has also asked for an investigation into the issue.
The new drugmaker said it will continue offering Levitra in the United States as a generic product, although it will include "limited" generics, the company said.
Under the new strategy, Bayer will offer Levitra in a range of strengths ranging from 5 mg to 10 mg pills.
The company's current version, Levitra-SR, has not yet been approved for use in the United States.
Bayer's patent on Levitra expired in July 2012.
The European patent for Levitra expired in June 2012, but it has not expired in the United States.

This medication is indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure in the arteries carrying blood to the lungs) and for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The erectile dysfunction medication increases blood flow to the penis to help a man get an erection. The use of the medication in patients with diabetes is also contraindicated due to the possibility of experiencing side effects such as flushing, dizziness, and visual disturbances.
This medication may be supplied to patients in generic doses. Patients should only be treated with care as the medication contains the same active ingredient (generic Vardenafil) as their brand name version (generic Vardenafil). If a dose is required, the doctor may need to adjust the dose.
Precautions for Vardenafil
